Our on-site School Library

We have an amazing Library here at Te Mata, with over 10,000 books and a dedicated, full-time Librarian available to our students throughout the year.

Our Library is a bright, enticing space that encourages and nurtures our school's strong reading culture. Our full-time Librarian Mrs Nicki Gibson ensures we continually have a supply of new books specifically tailored to our student's needs and desires, while at the same time supporting our staff with curriculum material.

Our classes have regular timetabled Library time each week which ensures every student selects appropriate reading material for them to take home and read, or leave in their classroom for shared reading.

Our Year 6 students can volunteer to become a Lunchtime Library Monitor and help run the Library alongside Mrs Gibson one lunchtime a week. This gives the students experience with managing others, operating the issuing system and keeping the Library and our Resource Room orderly.

Our New Library for 2025!

We have recently carried out an extensive renovation that has included updating soft furnishings, shelving, reading displays (our tree!) and the creation of a partitioned-off collaborative space, the 'Tūī Room'. This has allowed teachers to have a break-out space for smaller book discussions and/or working, and for us to run a Lego Club and other club or events at lunchtimes. The glass partitions enables us to keep the Library quiet for our avid readers.

During our renovation period last year, parents of our Home & School group fundraised for refurbishment extras including our beautiful centrepiece tree, which you will see for yourself, is a stunning feature in our Library. Our Te Mata pupils will love our new Library for years to come!

Downloadables / Links

Check out these links here for Library extras. Your child can log in remotely to our school Library system to view our collection and see when their books are due back in. Click on School Library (Remote Log-in) go to the top right corner where it says 'Guest' and put in your child's four digit Library number into Borrower ID/User name/ID and just press enter, you don't have to put a password in.

Here at Te Mata we have created 'Reading Trees' which are recommended reads branching off from our most issued favourites. We also have some downloadable 'reading-lists' of some of our favourite book collections too. Your child can tick off the books they have read and heart the ones they loved. All books are available in our Library.

Our Library also hosts lunchtime reading groups like the very successful year5-led 'Reading Under The Tree' group and our annual 'Book Character Day' with Scholastic Book Fair. The Library also accommodates the Pānui Mai, Read to Me volunteers, parent evenings and events.

We sometimes expand our love of books outside into our beautiful grounds with StoryWalks and reading to the children, which is always popular.

Our Book Character Day for 2025 is happening on Friday 7th November! with our Book Fair around that week.

Scholastic Book Club

We offer the Scholastic Book Club here at Te Mata. Brochures are distributed to classes throughout the year and will come home with your child(ren).

To place an order, just create an account on the Book Club website (button link below) or download the Book Clubs Loop for Parents App and choose your child's class teacher. Use the brochure to reference the books you would like to order. A digital version is also available on their website. All orders placed under your teacher's details will build up points on their account to spend on FREE class books!

All orders come to the school where Mrs Nicki Gibson will ensure your order goes straight to your child. If this is a gift, please remember to mark this on your order and Nicki will be in touch to arrange a direct pick up at our office.
