Te Mata School warmly welcomes our newly arrived families to New Zealand and our speakers of other languages. Te Mata currently has over 30 students on our ESOL role who are supported through a variety of programmes on offer. We have over 20 different nationalities within our school families and believe this gives our school a rich cultural depth in our classrooms and our playground.
Our ESOL students participate in Early Language programmes delivered by our Teacher Aide. They have opportunities to chat with each other, develop language around a series of topics and engage in activities that extend them past basic English language conversation.
As our ESOL students become more confident they are able to join into our Stepsweb Programme which supports vocabulary learning alongside tenses, sentence structure, reading comprehension and spelling using video tutorials and interactive activities.
Come in and speak to our staff on how we cater for children specific to their needs and abilities, or contact our DP Claire Bancks at cbancks@temata.school.nz / 06 877 7246.
