Book-A-Tour
The best way to experience and to get a feel for our school is to Book-A-Tour* with our Principal Patrice O'Connor, or with our Deputy Principals Becs Northe & Claire Bancks. We run personalised tours during our school day so that you can visit classrooms and see our learning in action. A tour also provides a great opportunity to ask questions and understand our enrolment process too.

*In some circumstances, we might be able to offer a Teams call / online tour if you are currently residing outside of Hawke's Bay and are intending on moving to our area soon.

Te Mata Contributing School Enrolment Scheme
What is an Enrolment Scheme?
An enrolment scheme helps schools manage their roll and avoid overcrowding. It ensures there is a fair and transparent process for deciding who can enrol, and supports the Ministry of Education in making the best use of local schools.
In-Zone Enrolments All students who live within our ‘home zone’ are guaranteed a place at the school. Please refer to the written description below.
Out-of-Zone Enrolment Ballot
If you live outside of our school’s ‘home zone’ and would like your child to attend our school, you can apply for an Out-of-Zone placement. When there are more Out-of-Zone applications than places available, we hold a ballot (random draw) to offer places fairly. This ballot is run according to Ministry of Education guidelines, and key dates and application details will be shared in advance. Please refer to page 3 on our 'Enrolment Scheme and Home Zone Map (pdf)' to the left, which provides further Out-of-Zone Enrolment information.
Our annual ballot is held in early October the year before your child would start (eg: To find out more about this process you can contact Karlee Tipu our Enrolment Officer ktipu@temata.school.nz).
Out-of-Zone Placement During the Year
If you live outside our school’s ‘home zone’ and missed the annual ballot or recently moved to Hawke’s Bay, you’re welcome to contact our office. From time-to-time, places may become available if other families' circumstances change and they no longer require the spot they were given.
