Cultural Opportunities

At Te Mata school we offer a range of cultural opportunities. 

Some vary from year to year depending on tutors, teachers and events.

Symphonic Band

Brass/Woodwind Band @ HNI

Students who learn either Trumpet, Saxophone, Clarinet or Flute are invited to join the Symphonic Band led by Mary McHattie - HNI Music Coordinator. Students practice on Thursday at 8am. Teacher Tori Lind joins this group as well, for support on Tenor Saxophone.

Orchestra

Orchestra @ HNI

Students who learn either Cello, Violin, Clarinet, Flute are invited to join the Orchestra led by Mary McHattie - HNI Music Coordinator. Students practice on Wednesdays at 7:45 am. Teacher Anna Kay joins this group as well, for support on Cello.

Bands

Senior Music tuition students in Bands

Bands, in the past, have been on offer for students at Te Mata. Bands have been made up of a Drummer, Guitarist/or 2 and Vocalist. When on offer, teachers support these bands at lunchtimes.

Chess Tournament

Senior Chess Competition

Te Mata holds an annual Chess tournament, where students compete against each other in the hope of the final game. After our school competition, students then get the opportunity to attend the HB Regional Chess Tournament if they wish.

Dance Festival

Senior Dance Groups

Te Mata School has an annual Dance festival for Senior students. Boys and girls can create mixed teams or all girls or boys teams to enter. The top 3 teams judged, go to the Interschool competition.

The Kids Sing / Kids 4 Kids (K4K)

Senior Choir events

The Kids Sing is a Primary & Intermediate Schools Choir Festival & Competition. Te Mata has entered in previous years. Kids 4 Kids (K4K) is another choir & show and has been postponed for 2021.

Junior & Middles Choir

Two separate Choirs

On offer, in both the Middle and Junior School, are Choirs. Both groups enjoy learning a variety of songs and perform at School Assemblies, to Kindergartens and often to local Rest Homes.

Senior Choir

Senior students Choir

Within the Senior School, students can choose to join the Choir. Students learn basic vocal warm-ups, learn about using their diaphragm when singing and practice a variety of songs, which are performed in Assemblies, events and at the End of the Year celebrations.

Ukulele Festival

The TM Ukulele Group

The Ukulele group, in the past, has been on offer for Senior & Middle students at Te Mata. When on offer, teacher/s have taught this group at lunchtimes. Also, this group has the opportunity of performing at the annual Ukulele Festival.
